She was born in Eau\r\n Claire on May 12, 1922, to Edgar and Agnes Nelson.\r\nThough it was the depression years, she had a wonderful childhood filled with\r\nfamily picnics, neighborhood friends playing, sliding down Mount Tom\r\nhill, ice skating in the winter, and swimming at Dells Pond in the summer. \r\n\r\nAfter graduating from Eau Claire\r\nHigh School in 1940, she joined the\r\nMarine Corp in 1943, and was in the first group of women enlisting from the Eau Claire area. She was\r\nhonorably discharged after the war ended in 1945, with the rank of Sergeant.\r\nOnce a Marine, always a Marine... Semper Fi! Serving her country was a highlight\r\nof her life, and she was forever proud of being able to do so. Dorothy was a\r\nmember of the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary.\r\n\r\nDorothy met and then married Harold Hanson in 1946, and they\r\nwere married for 40 years before his death in 1986. She was a very active\r\nmember of Drammen\r\n Lutheran Church\r\nand volunteered her time and talent in many activities including Sunday School\r\nSuperintendent, Choir, Ladies Aide, and Church Council. Her faith in God\r\ncarried her all of her life and she was a living example of what she believed.\r\n\r\nShe was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three babies;\r\nand her brother, Norman Nelson. She leaves behind her three children, William\r\n(Kandy) Hanson of Woodland Hills, CA, Nancy (Robert) Wahl of Colfax, and Debora\r\nWoodford of Eau Claire; three grandchildren, Jessica (Nino) Belfortti of\r\nWinneka, CA, Nichole (DJ) Tedesco of Chatsworth, CA, and Michelle (John) Wall\r\nof Winneka, CA; six great-grandchildren, William, Isabella, Michael, Matthew,\r\nKristen, and Andrea; sister-in-law, Thelma Nelson; and nieces, nephews, and\r\nfriends. \r\n\r\nWe want to thank the wonderful staff at Sacred Heart\r\n Hospital who cared for\r\nDorothy so kindly and attentively during her stay there.\r\n\r\nTo us, we had the most wonderful mother, grandmother, and\r\ngreat-grandmother God could have given us. She touched many lives during her\r\ntime on earth and will not be forgotten.\r\n\r\nMemorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April\r\n21, 2011 at Drammen Lutheran Church,\r\nlocated in the Town of Drammen, Eau Claire County on County Road B, with Pastor\r\nKathryn Gauger officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at\r\nchurch. Burial will be at Drammen\r\n Lutheran Church\r\n Cemetery with Military\r\nHonors provided by American Legion Post #53.
