Obituary

Dorothy A. Hodge (nee O'Donnell), 91, of Eau Claire died Thursday, June 10, 2004 at Syverson Lutheran Home. She was born April 29, 1913 in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Cornelius and Emily (Zahn) O'Donnell.\r\nDorothy married Benjamin F. Hodge Sr. on January 8, 1936 in Belleville, IL.\r\nAs a 70 year resident of St. Louis, Missouri, Dorothy raised her family instilling in her children a love of reading, the arts, and the importance of family. She worked in various office jobs, and contributed her time to many community projects. She was a story teller at McKinley Elementary School in Normandy, Missouri, a Girl Scout leader, and an active member of Normandy Methodist Church. After her move to Eau Claire, she remained active at Chapel Heights Methodist Church, and was a volunteer for Sacred Heart Hospital and a literacy tutor. For many years, she continued her hobbies of painting, exploring the world through books, and making friends.\r\nSurvivors include three daughters, Mary Brauninger of St. Louis, MO, Emily Sue Christensen of Eau Claire, Ragini Elizabeth Michaels of Seattle, WA; a son, Benjamin F. Hodge of Chicago, IL; four grandchildren, Mark (Ally) Brauninger of Cuba, MO, Susan (Steve) Dardas of Harrison, AR, Anne (Shawn) Lentsch of Norwood-Young America, MN, and Erik Christensen of Minneapolis, MN; and four great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Meagan, and Abigail Dardas, Madison Brauninger and Riley Lentsch.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 47 years, Benjamin; two sons-in-law Frederick Christensen and Buford Brauninger; her sister, Frieda Thoelke; and a niece, Margaret "Peg" Giordano.\r\nFuneral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, June 14, 2004 at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home with Pastor Andrew Boe officiating. Family and friends may call one hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be 2:30 p.m.Wednesday, June 16th at Memorial Park Cemetery in Normandy, MO. \r\n
