Obituary

Dorothy E. Mercier, 95, Eau Claire, died Saturday, July 7, 2018, at Heatherwood Assisted Living and Memory Care in Eau Claire. She was born on July 18, 1922, in Sarona, WI, a daughter of Ernest and Mae (Smith) Koch. Dorothy married Donald A. Mercier on February 13, 1947, in Rice Lake, WI. After residing in Madison and Milwaukee for several years, they moved to Eau Claire in 1953. She worked at Luther Hospital from 1969 until her retirement in 1987. She was always a very active member of her community and worked the election polls annually up until 2011. Dorothy liked to bowl and play duplicate bridge. Dorothy is survived by her son, Gary (Arlene Louton) Mercier of Willcox, AZ; daughter, Dr. Diane Mercier; and granddaughter, Andrea Moe all of Reno, NV; and a step-sister, Avis (Rubert) Pangerl of Braham, MN. Dorothy appreciated her many good friends who were so helpful and generous to her in the later years. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald in 1998; an infant son, Glen, sister, Elsie Zdenek; and son-in-law, Harley Moe. There will be no visitation or formal memorial service. A private burial service will be held at Rest Haven Cemetery in the town of Washington. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral and Cremation Services is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the Mayo Clinic Health System Hospital, PO Box 4105, Eau Claire, WI 54702 or the Chippewa Valley Museum, PO Box 1204, Eau Claire, WI 54702. The family wishes to extend a very special thank you to Koreen Schultz, with Appeal to Heaven, who has been a gift in our lives, and to Barbara Malnory, who was like a sister to Dorothy and who provided immeasurable support in countless ways. The family wishes to thank Dr. Mark Edstrom and Kathy Lorentz RN for their services, support and kindness throughout the many years, and also wishes to thank the staff at Heatherwood Assisted Living and Mayo Clinic Home Health & Hospice for their compassionate care provided to Dorothy.
