Obituary

Dorothy M. Ross, 93, of Eau Claire died Friday, June 26, 2009, at Fall Creek Valley Care Center.Dorothy was born August 26, 1915, the fifth of six children of William and Jennie (Larkin) Thiele in Iron River, Wisconsin. The family moved to Superior, Wisconsin, where she attended Bryant School and graduated Superior Central High School in 1932; then working at McClean's Grocery in South Superior. She married Harry Gylland in 1937 but later divorced. On June 17, 1944, she married Arthur E. Ross. They moved to Eau Claire in 1946 were she spent many happy hours with the ladies of the Union Valley Homemakers, Helping Hand, and Birthday Club while raising her two children. \r\nIn the 1950s, she went to work at Samuelson's Department Store in downtown Eau Claire selling dry goods material&doing window displays. She later was employed in the furniture and drapery department at the Consumer's Cooperative.She enjoyed bowling for more than 50 years and held several offices in the Superior and the Eau Claire Women's Bowling Associations. She also was involved in the establishment of the Eau Claire Junior Bowling Association. Dorothy loved music and dancing, playing cards, sewing, gardening, and working on crafts for much of her life. She also volunteered at the L.E. Phillips Senior Center and was a member of the Department of Aging Nutrition Board. She lived at the London Square Apartment for many years where she enjoyed time with friends making stuffed animals for the Shriners needy children program and other charity projects.She is survived by two daughters, Arletta Rud, and Shirley (Bruce) Paulsrud; five grandchildren, Michael (friend Che'ri Wilkerson) Rud, Julie (Scott) Nimmo, Daniel (Sherry) Rud, all of Eau Claire, James Paulsrud of West Bend, WI, Melanie (Daniel) Schmidt of Oregon, WI; two great grandchildren, Alexandra and Alison Rud; one sister, Evelyn Ghyselinck; and many nieces and nephews.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur; two sisters, Gladys Pederson and Irma Andersen; and two brothers, Robert and Gerald Thiele.\r\nFuneral service will be held Monday, June 29, 2009, at 2 pm, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home in Eau Claire with Chaplin Pat Chittendon officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 12-2 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery, Town of Washington.\r\n\r\n
