Duane Francis Diedrich, age 85 of Eau Claire passed away peacefully, to be with his wife Marie, with his family by his side on Sunday, October 5, 2014, at Mayo Clinic Health System. Duane was born on December 18, 1928, in the town of Edson, Wisconsin, the son of Norbert and Leona Diedrich. He married Marie E. Winget on October 22nd, 1949. Duane was a paper auditor at Pope and Talbot until he retired at age 62, in 1991. Prior to Pope and Talbot, he was a dedicated mechanic for many years at Hebert Standard Gas Station on Birch Street. Duane loved his family more than anything. He made providing for and protecting them a priority in his life. He had a "Gift of Gab" and he never met a stranger; always talking and giving time to everyone he met. He was passionate about fishing and hunting. He was an avid fan of wrestling and football. He was always busy fixing something and also enjoyed gardening and feeding the birds in his retirement years. He was also a longtime member of St. Olaf's Parish. He is survived and will be greatly missed by his daughters, Sharon (Don) Derouin of Mapleton, MN, and Lynn (Fred) Stark of Eau Claire, WI; four grandchildren, who he left with incredible memories, Dana (Chad) Bratsch of Brooklyn Park, MN, Nick Derouin of Austin, TX, Abbey (Simon) Lowes-Stark of Minneapolis, MN, and Cole Stark of Eau Claire, WI. He also is survived by two beautiful great-grandsons, Beau and Braxton Bratsch. He is further survived by his sister's son, Steven (Gloria) Sanasac, of Marshfield, WI; and his sister's daughter, Rita (David) Brinker of Barron, WI. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie; parents; brother, Lyle Diedrich; and sister, Darlene Sanasac. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, November 2, 2014, at Lenmark Gomsrud Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Avenue, Eau Claire. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 3, 2014, at St. Olaf Catholic Church, 3220 Monroe Street, Eau Claire with a visitation one hour prior to the Mass at church. Father Felix Tigoy and Deacon Bob Chittendon will be officiating. Entombment will be in The Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum in Calvary Cemetery, Eau Claire.
