Duane "Duke" Ellery Gunderson, 85, passed away peacefully in his home on February 5, 2026.

Duane built his own home along the Chippewa River, where he spent many happy years and lovingly called it his "little slice of heaven." It truly was. He cherished the simple pleasures of life, especially watching the wildlife along the river, from eagles soaring above and perching in his yard to the fish jumping in the water below.

Duane is survived by his beloved son, Gerald (Lynn) Gunderson; his two grandchildren, Tony and Kailee Gunderson; his brother, Tom "Ike" Gunderson; and his sister-in-law, Sharon Gunderson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gunder and Ella Gunderson; his former wife, Diana Connell, with whom he shared a lasting friendship; his sister, Geraldine "Gerry" Sipple; and his brothers, Kenneth "Ole" and James "Chief" Gunderson.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
