Earl "Jake" Clarence Zillmer, 91, of Eau Claire, died on Friday, August 17, 2012, at Dove Healthcare, West in Eau Claire. Earl was born to Herman and Maude (Aumann) Zillmer on November 28, 1920, in the town of Cleveland, Jackson County, WI. He attended Valley View School in rural Fairchild. On July 7, 1942, Earl enlisted in the Army and served during World War II in France, Belgium, Germany and Czechoslovakia. He was a member of the 97th Infantry Division. On August 12, 1944, Earl married Beatrice H. Szydel in the chapel of Camp San Louis Obispo, California. After the war they made their home in Eau Claire where they raised their three daughters. He worked with his brother, Lloyd, at Lloyd's Electric Home Headquarters in Eau Claire and later retired from the Eau Claire Board of Education. Earl was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed hunting with his friends near Fairchild, and watching the Brewers and Packers. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Altoona and the Knights of Columbus, John F. Kennedy Council #1257. He was a man of deep faith with a strong devotion for saying the rosary and attending daily Mass with his wife Beatrice. Earl is survived by three daughters, Marilyn (Michael) Smith, Vivian (the late Elliott) Holm, and Karen (Greg) Loe; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter; 1 sister, Alice (Herbie) Doud; 1 brother, Gail (June) Zillmer; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife Beatrice in 2010; parents; five brothers, Hallie, Lloyd, Harold, Roy, and Jerome; two sisters, Evelyn Lorenz and Elda Weiberg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1812 Lynn Ave., in Altoona, with Father Derek Sakowski celebrating the mass. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Town of Washington with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post 53. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, August 20 at Lenmark Gomsrud Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave., in Eau Claire, and one hour prior to the mass on Tuesday at the church.
