Obituary

EDITH MABEL BROADDUS, 89, formerly of Route 2, Elk Mound, died Sunday, August 23, 1998, in Milwaukee at the home of her daughter, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Edith was born on April 25, 1909 in Eau Claire to Richard and Anna (Foss) Lieske, the oldest of four children. She graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School with the class of 1928.\r\nEdith married Claude T. Broaddus on June 30, 1936 at Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. She was employed as a stenographer by the Hoeppner-Bartlett Co, until the birth of her first child, and later returned to work at the Hoeppner-Bartlett Co. under the WPA. Edith was a member of Eau Claire Court #4 Order of the Amaranth, where she served in a number of positions including, Royal Matron for 1981-1982. After serving as Royal Matron, Edith was appointed Grand Representative to a number of states at various times in the Grand Court. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the White Shrine of Jerusalem.\r\nSurvivors include two sons, Richard (Marlene) Broaddus of Crivitz,WI, and Thomas (Kathy) Broaddus of Twin Lakes,WI; two daughters, Susan (Headlee) Burdette of Albuquerque,NM, and Jane (Christopher) Montezon of Milwaukee; ten grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Bass of Manassas,VA; and many other relatives and friends.\r\nEdith was preceded in death by her husband, Claude on April 18, 1976; a sister, Anna Louise Lieske; and her brother, Richard Lieske.\r\nFuneral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Lenmark-Gomsrud Funeral Home with Pastor Howard Fehr officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and an hour prior to services on Thursday. There will be 7 p.m. Amaranth service on Wednesday at the Funeral Home.
