Edward A. Bates, 52, of San Jose, California and formerly of Eau Claire, died Thursday, September 30, 2004, at O'Connor Hospital in Santa Clara. He was born in Eau Claire on March 26, 1952, the son of Lee and Lila (Ackerson) Bates. Edward graduated from North High School with the class of 1970. He was a senior electronics technician for Varian Incorp.\r\nEdward married Helen Ermita on January 20, 1975, in Olongapo City, Philippines.\r\nHe is survived by his wife, Helen; two sons, Michael and Timothy Bates; daughter, Mary Ann Maldonado; two grandsons, Robert and Daniel Maldonado all of San Jose, CA; five brothers, William (Karn) of Altoona, Herbert (Nonie), Jeffrey (Leslie) both of Eau Claire, Thomas (Jeanne) of Eleva, and John of Oshkosh; three sisters, Carol Robinson of Strum, Julie (Joe) Sass of Farmington, MN, and Lisa (Don) Ringwald of Eau Claire; and many nieces and nephews.\r\nEdward was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Lila.\r\nFuneral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 8, 2004, at Grace Lutheran Church Chapel, Eau Claire with the Reverend David J. Irgens officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Friday at the church. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home is serving the family.
