Eileen M. Bruer, 89, of Eau Claire died on Friday, May 1, 2015 at Grace Woodlands Assisted Living. She was born in Eau Claire, WI on September 10, 1925, the daughter of Thomas McInnis and Catherine (Fisher) McInnis. She grew up in the Shawtown neighborhood, and attended St. Patrick's School, graduating with the class of 1943. As a young woman, she worked in retail sales at Fleming's Jewelery Store in downtown Eau Claire. Eileen married John J. Bruer, Jr. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1946. She and John were pioneer members of St. James the Greater Catholic Church. She was a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, and a joyful grandmother, whose creativity, generosity of spirit, and sense of humor will be missed by all who loved her. Eileen is survived by two sons, John T. (Lili) of St. Louis, MO and Patrick J.(Jane) of Chapel Hill, NC; two grandsons John Jacob Bruer of Pasadena, CA and Matthew Christopher Bruer of Atlanta, GA; one sister, Betty L. McInnis of Eau Claire, and two brothers, Fr. Thomas J. McInnis of Galesville, WI and Patrick J. McInnis of Minneapolis, MN. She is preceded in death by her husband John, her sisters Margaret C. "Mardie" McInnis of Eau Claire, Sr. Catherine A. McInnis O.S.B. of New Prague, MN, and Mary Jane Garnett of Eau Claire. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 am Tuesday, May 5 at St. James the Greater Catholic Church with Father Tom Krieg presiding. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends and family may call from 4 to 7 pm Monday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Tuesday at the church. .
