Elaine H. Flaten, 87, years old of Eau Claire, WI passed away Monday, January 26, 2009, at the Clairemont Nursing Home. She was born in St. Paul, MN on August 17, 1921, to Fred and Hulda Vehrs. She married Horace O. Flaten on November 30, 1945, in Rusk County, WI.\r\nElaine graduated from Colfax High School in 1941. She worked for several years in Milwaukee at St. Luke's Hospital. After her marriage, she returned to Eau Claire and was employed at Luther Hospital for 30 years. \r\nShe was a Gold Star Mother, member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and a member of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. \r\nElaine is survived by her grandson, William (Brenda) Flaten; two great-granddaughters, Alyssa and Emily Flaten; daughter-in- law, Elke Flaten; sister-in-law, Mary Jane (Harold) Smith; brother-in-law, Roger (Joanne) Flaten; and many relatives and friends. \r\nElaine was preceded in death by her husband, Horace in 1995; her parents: a son, Harold; two sisters-in-law, Minerva and Margaret Flaten; and two brothers-in-law, Jerome and Lester Flaten. \r\nFuneral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2009, at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Eau Claire with Pastor Donald Wisner officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in the Town of Washington. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Thursday at the church. \r\nLenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral and Cremation Services is serving her family. \r\n
