Obituary

Elaine E. Kernan, 80, of the town of Union died Monday, March 27, 2006, at Sacred Heart Hospital. Elaine was born in Eau Claire on April 6, 1925, to Dewey and Nora (Ross) Snyder and raised on Eau Claire's upper west side overlooking Half Moon Lake.\r\nShe attended 9th Ward School, Junior High School and graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School with the class of 1943.\r\nElaine married her longtime friend and soldier sweetheart, P.F.C. Rodger J. Kernan on July 21, 1945. They celebrated 54 ½ happy years of marriage. Rodger died on December 18, 1999.\r\nDuring her 35 year career in the Food Service Business she worked as a cook, chef, caterer and Food Service Manager. Some of the prominent businesses Elaine worked at were Wisconsin State University (Schofield Hall Cafeteria), moving over to the new Davies Center, Hillcrest Country Club and Sophia's Pancake House. She also planned and prepared meals for the Blue Gold Football team while they were in summer camp. She retired from the Ramada Inn.\r\nElaine is survived by her three sons, Rodean "Dean" of Town of Union, Dewey (Carolyn), and Dale (De Lores) both of Holcombe; two granddaughters, Karen (Bill) Hall of Chippewa Falls and Julie (Jeffrey) Sandberg of Mondovi; six great grandsons, Sean, Brenden and Devin Hall of Chippewa Falls; Justin, Joshua and Jeremy Sandberg of Mondovi; her sister, Eunice Small of Kalispell, Montana; and best friend "Sam" her black Lab.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Wayne "Bill" Snyder; and two very special people in her life, Grandma Mary and Uncle George H. Ross.\r\nElaine was a very caring, sharing lady, her kindness and generosity touched many lives. She had a heart of gold and everyone got a little piece of it.\r\nPrivate family services were held Tuesday with burial in Lakeview Cemetery. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral and Cremation Services served the family.\r\n
