Obituary

Elaine Dorothy Leirmo, 95, of Eau Claire passed away on March 17, 2018, at Milestone Senior Living in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Elaine was born on January 7, 1923, to John and Ruth (Seniff) Lahner of Eau Claire, WI. Elaine attended 3rd Ward grade school and Eau Claire High School. She was united in marriage to Ralph Leirmo Sr. on December 29, 1939. Ralph and Elaine lived in Mondovi, WI, until they moved to a small farm in Elk Mound, WI, in 1948 where they managed a small farm and saw mill business. Elaine introduced domestic engineering to the 20th century. She planned, budgeted, executed and solved crisis with the best. She was a tremendously talented lady who was the ultimate example of a multitasker. Elaine raised eight happy, well-adjusted children who love and support each other to this very day. Elaine had children in her home from 1940 to 1980. Elaine managed the diaper changing, preparing meals, washing clothes, going to PTA, helping with school work, getting kids to Sunday school & church, planting and harvesting gardens, managing the children's chores, caring for the farm animals and managing the sawmill and household expenses. What a rewarding career. Elaine was a member of the Big Elk Creek Lutheran Church and a long standing member of the women's Lydia Circle and WELCA group. She enjoyed visits from her grandchildren, crocheting, gardening, fresh cut flowers, jig saw puzzles, chocolate and driving fast. Elaine is survived by her brother, George (Puck) Lahner; her daughters, Joanne (Arlyn) Solberg of Elk Mound, WI, Barbara (Benjamin) Topper of Downsville, WI, Dorothy Goglio of Madison, WI; her sons, Jerry (Sue) Leirmo of Arlington, TX, Ralph (Mary) Leirmo Jr. of Elk Mound, WI, Gene (Wendy) Leirmo of Elk Mound, WI, and Dennis Leirmo of Bloomer, WI. She is further survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends. A special thanks to all the personnel at Milestone Sr. Living and Milestone Memory Care Units for the special care given to Elaine for the past 9 years. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph Sr.; daughter, Jeanette Onsgard; and son-in-law, Gerry Onsgard; as well as her Lahner brothers, Donald (Sonny), Robert (Rib), Derald, Theodore (Ted), Kenneth (Juice); and sisters Gloria Coleman-Larrabee, Alyce Sippel-Smith, Eileen Thomson-Hoyord, and Teresa Fialkowski. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2018, at Big Elk Creek Lutheran Church, located on Chippewa County Hwy M 3 1/2 miles north of Chippewa County Hwy 29, with Pastor Hal Schroetter officiating.
