Obituary

Elizabeth C. Evans, 96, died Tuesday, January 30, 2007, at Syverson Lutheran Home in Eau Claire.\r\nBetty was born on January 3, 1911, the daughter of William and Beulah (Mason) Carpenter in Glens Falls, New York. She graduated from Radcliffe College in 1933.\r\nBetty married John E. Evans, Jr. on August 28, 1933.\r\nBetty was active in both her church and community in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for 67 years, particularly in Girl Scouts and Zonta. She earned a Masters in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh in 1964. She practiced as a social worker for 12 years.\r\nIn addition to being a skilled potter, knitter, and photographer, Betty also loved traveling the world. She had been a resident of the Syverson Lutheran Home since 2000.\r\nShe is the beloved mother of John E. (Phyllis) Evans, III of St. Louis, Missouri, Claire E. (Larry) Martin of Eau Claire and the loving grandmother of Karina Hogan, Nicholas Martin, Mycroft J. Evans, Sonia Martin, Monica Flak and the late Barrett G. Evans. She was a loving great grandmother of seven.\r\nFuneral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 3, 2007, at the Syverson Lutheran Home in the Meta Trebus Memorial Chapel, with Dr. Jerry L. Richards officiating. Family and friends may call one hour prior to services Saturday at the Syverson Home Chapel. Burial will be in Jefferson Memorial Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home is serving the family.\r\nMemorials preferred to Girl Scouts of the USA, Fund Development, P.O. Box 19611A, Newark, NJ, 07195-0611.\r\n
