Ellen Margaret Harsh entered into eternal rest at the age of 88, on November 17, 2014, at Grace Edgewood – Assisted Living Facility in Altoona, WI. Ellen was born on February 25, 1926, at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire, WI. She attended Sunny Valley Elementary and graduated from Elk Mound High School. She married Douglas Harsh of Rock Falls, WI and gave birth to two sons and one daughter. Together they lived in Chicago and then moved to Rock Falls where they managed a farm for a few years until their divorce. Ellen then continued to raise her children in Eau Claire and worked as a sales clerk at Kresges. In her later years, Ellen worked as a dietary aide at Sacred Heart Hospital and in retirement, she volunteered at Luther Hospital. Ellen was "one of a kind." She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered for her spitfire wit, humor, and the love she truly shared through all of her worrying about everyone else. Ellen is survived by her son, Larry (Barb) Harsh of Colorado; daughter, Mary (Joe) Beaver of Eau Claire; grandsons, Colin (Erin) Harsh of Colorado and Nate Beaver (Fiancé, Heather Olson) of Eau Claire; granddaughter, Kala (Bryan) Root of Eau Claire; great-grandsons, Mason and Braden Harsh of Colorado; sister, Dorothy (Melvin) Sanders of Elk Mound; brother, Merle S. Quale of Chippewa Falls; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; Charles and Ellen Quale; son, Wayne Harsh; brothers; Alvin, Doug, and Charles Quale; and sisters, Evelyn Larson and Geraldine Running. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 21, 2014, at Lenmark Gomsrud Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave., Eau Claire. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 4 to 7 p.m. and again one hour before the service on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Eau Claire.
