Elmer E. Eggen, 82, of Eau Claire died Sunday, October 26, 2003 at his home. He was born in Eau Claire County, Wisconsin on February 25, 1921, the son of Iver and Bessie (Yule) Eggen. He graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School with the class of 1939. Elmer married Mary Jane Olson in Eau Claire at Grace Lutheran Church on December 6, 1947. He entered the US. Army Reserves in 1937 and then the U.S. Army during World War II from October 17, 1942 serving in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theaters until his honorable discharge on September 11, 1945. Elmer was employed at Uniroyal for 38 years, retiring as a Supervisor in 1982. He never permanently retired after Uniroyal, as he continued to work, most recently with L&M Mail Service from 1997 to 2003\r\nSurvivors include his son, Peter (Judy Marquardt) Eggen of Springbrook; daughter, Jane (Gene Krigsvold) Eggen of Eau Claire; brother, Charles (Fern) Eggen Chippewa Falls; three sisters, Verna Fenner of Strum, Una Larson and June Sieg both of Eau Claire; many nieces, nephews and friends. \r\nElmer was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane in December of 1995; his parents; a granddaughter, Angie Reed; and his brother, Earl.\r\nPrecious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his Saints, we have lost one of our Saints on Earth. People might say Elmer was an ordinary man, no particular hobby, but for those of you that knew him you know his hobby was helping others. At a drop of a hat he would always be there. He will greatly be missed by those who knew and loved him, because if you knew him you couldn't help but love him.\r\nFuneral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 30, 2003 at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Rolf A. Nestingen officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery where VFW Post #305 will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Thursday at the church.
