\r\nElmer M. Heuer, 95, of Eau Claire died peacefully at his home, in his rocking chair, on Tuesday, December 14, 2010.\r\nElmer was born November 10, 1915, in the village of Fall Creek, a son of Sigmund and Amelia (Henning) Heuer.\r\nElmer served in the U.S. Army serving in the Aleutian Islands from January 1941 until his honorable discharge in October 1945. \r\nOn June 6, 1948, Elmer married Eileen A. Garlie at Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire.\r\nElmer owned and operated Conoco Service Station on Brackett Avenue in Eau Claire. He also worked as a custodian for the Eau Claire School District until he retired in 1977.\r\nElmer enjoyed refinishing antique furniture, doing yard work and was even able to shovel snow up until the last year of his life. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, playing sports, and loved doing jigsaw puzzles and crossword scratchoffs. His favorite sports teams were the Milwaukee Braves/Brewers and the Green Bay Packers.\r\nElmer is survived by his son, Mark Heuer of Fall Creek; two grandchildren, Shelby Heuer and Adam (Jessica) Heuer and their mother, JoAnne Heuer; two great-grandchildren, Ariel and Jasmin Heuer; and a sister, Ruth (Glen) Patzwald of Eau Claire. \r\nHe was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen; brother, Ray Heuer; and a granddaughter, Dana Heuer.\r\nFuneral services will be at 11a.m. Monday, December 20, 2010, at Grace Lutheran Church, 202 W. Grand Ave. in Eau Claire, with Rev. Rolf A. Nestingen officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in the Town of Washington with American Legion Post 53 providing Military Honors. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday December 19, 2010 at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave in Eau Claire and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.\r\nMemorials are preferred to Grace Lutheran Church.\r\n
