Elsie L. Zdenek (nee Koch), 87, of Eau Claire, passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2012, at Heritage Court in Eau Claire. Elsie was born on October 15, 1924, in St. Paul, MN to Ernest and Mae (Smith) Koch. Her family moved to Rice Lake, WI, where Elsie attended school and graduated from Rice Lake High School. Elsie married Joseph N. Zdenek on October 7, 1941, in Rice Lake, they moved to Chicago, IL and later moved to McHenry, IL where they lived from 1941 to 1974. After Joseph's death in June of 1974 Elsie moved to Eau Claire to be near her mother and sister. She did clerical and secretarial work at Jensen Homes and Realty, Medical X-Ray Consultants and Fuller Funeral Home. Elsie was a member of St. James the Greater Catholic Parish.\r\n \r\nElsie is survived by her sister, Dorothy Mercier of Eau Claire; nephew, Gary Mercier of Willcox, AZ; niece Diane (Harley Moe) Mercier and great-niece Andrea Moe, both of Reno, NV; and step-sister, Avis (Rubert) Pangerl of Pine City, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; and brother-in-law, Donald Mercier. A Memorial Gathering and burial will be at a later date in Rest Haven Gardens Cemetery, Town of Washington. The family wishes to thank Elsie's physician, Dr. Edstrom; the staff at Heritage Court for their care of Elsie while she was a resident; Elsie's many friends for their loving support over the years; and Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home for their care, concern and assistance to our family during this time of sadness.
