Elvina M. Voldsness, Eau Claire, died Thursday, February 17, 2011, at the age of 93. She will be remembered for her strength and determination in facing the difficult challenges she had after suffering a stroke in 1993.\r\nElvina was born on August 13, 1917, to Otis and Ingeborg "Emma" (Evenson) Johnson, in the town of Chimney Rock in Trempealeau County. Elvina married Spencer D. Voldsness on October 1, 1935, at First Lutheran Church. She and Spencer lived the entire 60 years of their married life in Eau Claire. Elvina worked at Armour's for 25 years, retiring in 1976.\r\nElvina and Spencer were longtime members of Our Saviors Lutheran Church. Elvina was active in Hope Circle and making quilts for Lutheran World Relief. She also sewed the gowns for the confirmation classes at Our Savior's. Sewing was an important part of her life and she was a creative and excellent seamstress. She especially enjoyed making clothes for her children and grandchildren.\r\nElvina was a 35 year member of Sons of Norway, where she served on various committees and was a proud member of the Blanda Kor, a singing group that provided entertainment with their Norwegian songs and dances. She and Spencer also enjoyed traveling and spent many years traveling throughout the U.S., Europe, Mexico, and China. In retirement, they also spent 15 winters in Florida or Texas.\r\nElvina is survived by three daughters, Elaine (Gordon) Voss of Maple Grove, MN, Sharen (Ronald) Hoepner and Dianne (Ronald) Powers both of Eau Claire; grandchildren, Gregory (Kathleen) Voss and their children, Taylor and Rachel, Kirsten (Charles) Rottinghaus and their children, Carmen and Erik all of Minneapolis, MN, Alisa (Paul) Schley and their son, Quinton, Bill (Terri) Hoepner and their children, Mason and Addison all of Eau Claire, Brian (Lou) Powers and their daughters, Bryn and Aria, and Erik (Sarah) Powers and their son, Arthur all of Minneapolis, MN; several nieces, nephews and friends further survive her.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her husband; an infant son and daughter; her parents; sister, Alice Zelie; six brothers, Elmer, Alfred, Ole, Ingvald, Joseph, and Henry.\r\nFuneral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, February 21, 2011, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 1310 Main St. in Eau Claire, with Rev. Sherm Iverson officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
