\r\nDr. Emil Schulz, age 86, of Eau Claire died on January 15th at Dove Healthcare West.\r\nEmil was born to Erna and Wilhelm Schulz on January 1st, 1925 in Eisenach, Germany. He attended grade school in Breitizbach, a farm village near Eisenach. He attended high school in Eisenach. Following graduation, he was in the German Air Force Medical Corps. He attended medical school at the University of Berlin and saw front line duty in Russian and France. He was an allied prisoner of war for three years where he met his future wife, Nurse Irene Beck.\r\nAfter his release in 1947, he returned to medical school in Germany at the University of Marburg. He returned to the United States in October of 1948 and married Irene Beck and subsequently two children, Crystal and Caryn. He finished medical school at the University of Minnesota and then served his internship in the Public Health Service in Seattle. He did specialty training in radiology, nuclear medicine and radiation oncology at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, the Navy Medical Center, Walter Reed Hospital, John Hopkins Medical Center and the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology. He published scientific papers in this specialty.\r\nIn 1960, he resigned his service commission and in 1961 moved to Eau Claire, Wisconsin where he practiced radiology at Luther Hospital and Radiologist, Ltd. until retirement in 1992. Emil always loved Eau Claire. Since his retirement he has missed his partners, his valuable and wonderful co-workers and many of his patients.\r\nHe always wanted to be part of Frontiers of Medicine and loved every day of his work in Eau Claire. He was a member and fellow of many medical organizations.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his wife, Connie.\r\nHe is survived by his children, Crystal Schulz and Caryn Schulz Passell (Nicholas Passell); and grandchildren, Emil Furcht and Petra and Vivian Passell. He is also survived by two brothers in Germany, Wolfgang and Henner.\r\nMemorial Service will be at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, Eau Claire, Wednesday, January 19 from 5 until 7 p.m.
