Emma C. Bowman formerly of 630 Franklin St., Eau Claire died Saturday, March 2, 2002 at Oakwood Villa in Altoona. She was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to John A. and Caroline (Peterson) Bowman on July 21, 1912. She graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School in January 1931 and from Luther Hospital School of Nursing in September 1934. \r\nShe worked as a medical records librarian at Luther Hospital for nine years when she was called to active duty in the Navy Nurse Corp Reserve through the Red Cross in July 1943. She served at the U.S. Navy Hospital at Farragut, Idaho, Long Beach, Cal., and Fleet Hospital #108, New Caledonia in the South Pacific.She was separated from the service in February 1946 with the rank of Lt. J.G. and entered the University of Minnesota where she graduated with a degree in Public Health Nursing. Emma worked at the V.A. Hospital in Tomah from September 1950 until her retirement in June 1972. \r\nEmma then worked at Mt. Washington Nursing Home for 2 ½ years as in-service director and nursing assistant trainer. Following her second retirement she worked as a volunteer in the coffee shop at Luther Hospital for many years. \r\n She enjoyed traveling which she did extensively throughout Europe, the South Pacific and Alaska. She was a life long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and a member of the Luther Hospital Development Council for many years. She was a continuous member of American Legion Post #53 for over 50 years.\r\nSurvivors include four nephews, John, James, and Clifford Bowman of Eau Claire and George Bowman of Roberts; two nieces, Mary Kuhn Eau Claire and Ellen Smith of Chippewa Falls; many great nieces and great nephews.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Elmer, Algot, Chester, George, Clarence and Clifford Bowman; two sisters, Eleanor Nelson and Ethel Davis; and a nephew, Steven Bowman.\r\nFuneral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2002 at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor David K. Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery where American Legion Post #53 will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Tuesday at the church. There will be a Veteran's Service at 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. \r\nFamily suggest memorials be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Luther Hospital Development Fund or Luther Hospital Alumni.
