Emma C. Candell, of Eau Claire, died Monday, May 16, 2011, at Fall Creek Valley Care Center in Fall Creek. She was born in Chippewa Falls on May 11, 1912, the daughter of Constantine and Anna (Gavinski) Augustine. Emma married Nicholas M. Candell on September 17, 1940, in Shell Lake, WI. Emma and Nicholas owned and operated Candell Grocery Store and later, Economy Oil Company in Shawtown, where she was the bookkeeper. Emma is survived by her daughter-in-law, Judy Candell of Minneapolis; a grandson, John Candell of New York; a granddaughter, Susan (Alex) Calingaert of Wayzata; a great-granddaughter, Anna Calingaert. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas in 1991; her parents; a son, John in 1997; two sisters, Anastasia and Stephanie; and three brothers, Adam, Casimer, and Mitchell Augustine. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave. in Eau Claire, with Monsignor Edmund Klimek officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to ALS Association, 3333 N. Mayfair Road, Suite 213, Wauwatosa, WI 53222 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
