Emma H. Leland, 92, 600 Graham Ave., died Friday March 16, 2001 at her home surrounded by her family and Pastor. She was born on December 20, 1908 to Theodore and Ernestine (Reick) Klohs in the town of Washington.\r\nEmma married William C. Leland on February 23, 1929 at Epiphany Lutheran Church. They made their home in Altoona where they raised their family.\r\nShe was a lifetime member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Altoona and a charter member of the Ladies Aid. Emma enjoyed writing poetry and sharing it with friends and family.\r\nSurvivors include five daughters, Elaine (Gaylord) Sell of Brackett, Arlene (Gail) Christ of Eau Claire, Joanne Christ of Eau Claire, Judy (Richard) Sires of South St. Paul, and Louise (Jim) Nyre of Eau Claire; 22 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Freda Miller of Altoona; and a sister-in-law, Marion Klohs of St. Paul.\r\nEmma was preceded in death by her husband, William in 1976; son, Paul; a son-in-law, Bernard Christ; a granddaughter, Cheryl Sires; a grandson, Jeff Leland; a great-grandson, Shawn Christ; four brothers, Theodore, Arthur, William and Edward Klohs; and a sister Alma Mittelstadt.\r\nFuneral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2001 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Altoona, with Pastor David B. Karolus officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Eau Claire. Friends and relatives may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Monday at the church. \r\nFamily requests memorials be directed to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Remodeling Fund. \r\nHer family wishes to thank her hospice nurse Dave Gunthert for his special care.
