Rev. Erling Nydahl Carlsen, 77, of Eau Claire, died Thursday, August 26, 2004, at Luther Hospital from acute Leukemia. He was born in Minot, ND, on February 9, 1927, the son of Rev. Clarence and Agnes (Nydahl) Carlsen. \r\nHe served in the U.S. Navy, stationed at Great Lakes Naval Base during 1945 and 1946.\r\nErling married Beverly Nystuen in Minneapolis, MN, on December 1, 1950.\r\nHe earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Augsburg College in 1950. In 1953, he earned a Master of Divinity degree from Augsburg Seminary in Minneapolis, MN.Erling served parishes in Zahl, ND, Cumberland, Neenah, Blair, and Dallas WI, and Rockford, IL.\r\nSurvivors include his wife, Beverly; five sons, Stephen of Seattle, WA, and his children Kristin, Kimberly and Bethany, Nathan (Nan) of Barron and their children, Nathan, Elizabeth (Shawn) and Hannah, Brian of Buffalo Grove, IL, Eric (Laurie) of Rice Lake and their children, Madeline and Mark, and Matthew (Akiko) of Honolulu, HI and their son, Joseph; sister, Ruth (Rev. Tom) Moen of Ham Lake, MN; brother, Rev. Carl (Helen) Carlsen of Gig Harbor, WA; and nieces and nephews.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Grace Carlsen and brother, Rev. Glenn Carlsen.\r\nFuneral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, August 30, 2004, at First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. Duane C. Pederson officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery.
