Obituary

ERNEST "ERNIE" L.V. LANE, 77, of Eau Claire died Saturday, February 17, 2001 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Ernie was born on May 18, 1923 in Cornell, Wisconsin to Ernest and Pearl (Huff) Lane. He married Eva L. Olson on February 16, 1946 in Eau Claire.\r\nHe served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a proud member of the 602nd Engineering Battalion. He worked 36 years as a tire builder at Uniroyal Tire Co., retiring in 1982.\r\nErnie was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Eau Claire Moose Lodge #1408, and a life member of VFW Post #305.\r\nHe enjoyed fishing and hunting, and many memories from his motorcycle trips.\r\nSurvivors include his wife, Eva of 55 years; two sons, Rich (Nancy) Lane of Eau Claire and Don (Sue) Lane of Fort Wayne, IN; two daughters, Betty (Gary) Norrish of Eau Claire and Becky (John) Englund of Savage, MN; nine grandchildren, Brenda (Jeff) Ross and Rick (Shawna) Lane, Kandi and Kevin Lane, Derek and Michelle Norrish, John, Matt and Andy Englund; four great grandchildren, Jordan and Bailee Ross, Hannah and Gavin Lane; many nieces and nephews.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jimmie; a daughter, Connie; three brothers, States, LeRoy and Enos; and his sister, Dorothy Vance.\r\nErnie was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and he will be greatly missed.\r\nThe Family wishes to thank the staff at Sacred Heart Hospital and St. Joseph's Hospice for their loving care during his illness.\r\nFuneral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church with Pastor Steven D. Rutter officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery where VFW Post #305 will conduct military graveside rites. Friends and relatives may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home. Eau Claire Moose Lodge #1408 will conduct Moose Rites at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.\r\nIn lieu of flowers his family requests memorials are directed to Sacred Heart Hospital Renal Dialysis Unit or St. Joseph's Hospice.
