Erwin J. Carey, 84, of Eau Claire, died Monday, October 17, 2006, at Dunn County Healthcare Center in Menomonie. He was born in Colfax on April 17, 1922, the son of Charles and Nora (Lowery) Carey.\r\nHe served in the U.S. Army during World War II, in Italy, from September 24, 1942, until the time of his honorable discharge on January 10, 1946.\r\nErwin married Inez D. Speed on August 30, 1947, at Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire, of which he was a long standing member.\r\nErwin was a truck driver, driving for Briggs Trucking, Witte Transfer, Osterman Trucking and retiring from Chippewa Motor Freight. \r\nHe is survived by three children, Linda (Mike) Lauer of Eau Claire, Janet (Frank) Anderl of Brooklyn Center, MN and David (Nancy) Carey of Norman, OK; eleven grandchildren, John (Beth), Joan and Julie Anderl, Tricia (Benjamin) McCune, Rebecca (John) Flaten, Mary Lauer and David Lauer, David Christopher, Alexandra, Cassandra and Candayce Carey; four great-grandchildren, Mollie, Madisen, Simeon McCune, and Nicholas Anderl; a sister-in-law, Dolores Speed of San Francisco, CA; a nephew, James Speed of Fremont, CA; and a niece, Annette Speed of San Francisco, CA; a twin brother, Earl of Menomonie; and by his special friend, Barbara Melby of Eau Claire.\r\nErwin was preceded in death by his wife Inez; his parents; two sisters; one brother; and his brother-in-law, Leslie.\r\nFuneral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 20, 2006, at Grace Lutheran Church with Rev. David J. Irgens officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in the town of Washington. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Friday at the church.\r\n
