Esther M. Andersen, 91, of 1719 Fenwick Ave., died Friday, September 5, 1997 at Oakwood Villa Nursing Home in Altoona.\r\nShe was born April 20, 1906 to Jens and Ingrid (Stolberg) Andersen near New Auburn. Esther earned her teaching certificate from Eau Claire Normal School, a Bachelor and Master of Arts from UWEC. She was an art teacher at Eau Claire Junior High School until her retirement in 1969.\r\nShe was a lifetime charter member of Bethel Lutheran Church, New Auburn, and a member of their Sunshine Circle; an associate member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Eau Claire, where she served as a church librarian for twenty-one years, and was a member of the Martha Circle. She volunteered at Luther Hospital for over 3000 hours, and was a member of their Good Samaritan Club. Esther was a member of the Retired Teacher's Association, the Wisconsin Retired Teachers' Association, Delta Kappa Gamma - Kappa Chapter, the Lutheran Library Association, Midwest Institute of Scandinavian Culture, and the National Swedish Cultural Society.\r\nEsther is survived by two cousins, Vivian C. Stolberg, Chippewa Falls, and Emil Stolberg of Hammond, Indiana.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her sister, Elinor C. Andersen, and brother, Fritjof.\r\nFuneral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Bethel Lutheran Church in New Auburn, with Pastors Ronald E. Gerl and David K. Anderson officiating. Burial will be in New Auburn Cemetery, Auburn Township. Friends may call 4-6 p.m., Sunday, at Lenmark-Gomsrud Funeral Home, Eau Claire, and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.\r\nMemorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Eau Claire, or Bethel Lutheran Church in New Auburn.
