Ethel L. Matz, 98, of Eau Claire, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2014, at the Syverson Lutheran Home in Eau Claire. Ethel was born in Eau Claire on November 14, 1915, a daughter of Charles and Beda (Hysen) Johnson. Ethel married Albert Matz on May 28, 1933, in Stillwater, MN. Ethel enjoyed travelling, golfing and square dancing. Ethel is survived by a son, Jeffrey (Gwen) Matz of Memphis, TN; two daughters, Karen (James) McCrady of Eau Claire and Judith Woletz of The Villages, FL; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; one sister, Dorothy Engstrom of Altoona; she is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; parents; three brothers, Eugene, Charles and Clare Johnson. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2014, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 3214 Golf Road in Eau Claire, with Pastor David Whalen officiating. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in the Town of Washington. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral and Cremation Services is serving her family. The family would like to thank all the staff at Syverson Lutheran Home and Mayo Clinic Home Health and Hospice for their wonderful care. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
