Ethel H. Peterson, 98, formerly of 901 S. Farwell Street, Eau Claire, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 11, 2008 at the Syverson Lutheran Home in Eau Claire. Ethel was born on June 23, 1909, on her grandfather's farm (Paul Paulson) northeast of Strum, Wis. to Ole and Anna (Paulson) Olson. Ethel was the oldest of nine children. She moved to Eau Claire in 1929 and married Alton Peterson on February 2, 1935, at Grace Lutheran Church. Alton died in 1967. \r\nEthel worked at The Lantern Card and Gift Shop for 18 years, retiring in 1982. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Ethel enjoyed cooking large meals for her family and serving delicious Norwegian delicacies with a great cup of hot egg coffee. Ethel had a very sharp memory and was often called upon to verify events and dates. \r\nSurvivors include two sons, William Peterson of Madison, and Steve (Mary Lou) Peterson of Juneau, Alaska; four grandchildren, Scott Peterson of Madison, Philip (Lynn) Peterson of Austin, Texas, Drake (Kathy) Peterson of Juneau, Alaska, and Alaina (Jeremiah) Clinton of Mountlake Terrace, Washington; and four great-grandchildren: Austin and Tyler of Austin, Texas, and Lars and Miles of Juneau. She is also survived by a brother, Spencer (Joyce) Olson of Osseo; a brother-in-law, Maynard Monson of Hazel Green; sisters-in-law, Melva Olson and Avis Olson of Pigeon Falls; and many nieces and nephews. \r\nShe was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers, Sylvin, Orville, Lincoln, and Vernon; sisters, Ruth Olson, Florence Fisher, and Rosemary Monson; daughter-in-law, Kathlyn Peterson; and granddaughter, Michelle Peterson. \r\nFuneral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 14, 2008, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 3214 Golf Road, Eau Claire, WI, 54703, with Pastor Harold Oelschlager officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Eau Claire. Family and friends may call one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
