ETHEL C. VANCE, 95, of Eau Claire, died Monday, July 9, 2001 at Syverson Lutheran Home. She was born on December 3, 1905 in Eau Claire, the daughter of Jens N. and Oline (Solberg) Hanshus. \r\nShe attended Eau Claire Schools and Luther Hospital Nursing School, graduating as a registered nurse in 1928. She was an obstetrics nurse at Luther Hospital for many years.\r\nEthel married Chester A. "Bud" Vance on September 8, 1945 in Evansville, Illinois.\r\nShe was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church and a member of the Luther Hospital Alumni Assoc. and Samaritan Club.\r\nShe is survived by her sister, Irene Onarheim of Bloomington, MN; her nieces, Judith Partlow of Eau Claire, Josephine (Kenneth) Hanson of Verona, Karen (Leonard) Nordstrom of Bloomington, MN, Joyce Boe of Denver, CO, Nancy (Richard) Hawks of Salem, SC, and Nelsine (Morton) Spooner of Estero, FL; her nephews, Donald (Therese) Losby and George (Mary Kay) Losby of Eau Claire, Roger Hauge of Tempe, AZ, Orville(Nathalie)Hauge of Woodbury, MN, and Jon (Peggy) Hanshus of Hutchinson Island, FL; and many great-nieces and nephews.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her husband, Chester in 1984; two brothers, Nels and Jerome Hanshus; and two sisters, Myrtle Losby and Adeline Hauge.\r\nFuneral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 12, 2001 at First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. Duane C. Pederson officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call an hour prior to services Thursday at the church. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home is serving the family.\r\nFamily suggests memorials be directed to Luther Hospital and First Lutheran Church.
