ETHYLLE E. KOWITZ, 86, of Durand, died Saturday, December 23, 2000 at Syverson Lutheran Home. She was born April 26, 1914 in Carroll County, Illinois to Voyle and Mary (Cormany) Prowant. Ethylle graduated from nurses training at St. Joseph's Merry Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa in 1942. She worked in various hospitals in Iowa, Illinois and at the Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis where she met Herbert Kowitz and later they married on September 1, 1946. They moved to Durand in the early 1950's and she worked at the Hospital in Durand until her retirement in 1973.\r\nSurvivors included three daughters, Mary Ann (Ron) Graham of Virginia Beach, VA, Barbara Hanson of Eau Claire, Susan (Ted) Nothom of Las Cruces, NM; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Violet Tebelius of Kenosha, brother-in-law,Ted (Lorraine) Kowitz of East Stroudsberg, PA; and several nieces and nephews. \r\nShe was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert in 1999; a sister, Sarah Prowant, brothers, Frances and Russel Prowant; and a grandson, Andy Bauer.\r\nFuneral Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, at Lake Street United Methodist Church, Eau Claire with Rev. Richard G. Maser officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Eau Claire. Friends and relatives may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Thursday at the church.
