Eugene F. Farrell, 86, of Eau Claire, died Saturday, August 4, 2012, at his home surrounded by members of his family. Eugene was born in Fargo, ND, on January 7, 1926, a son of Francis and LaVerne (Schur) Farrell. Eugene graduated from Casselton High School with the Class of 1943. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Altamaha in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Eugene married Annette Desautels on June 20, 1949, in Michigan, ND. Eugene had worked at Uniroyal for 20 years before retiring in 1988. Eugene loved watching sports, especially NCAA basketball. He really enjoyed following all sports at Regis High School. Eugene was a member of St. James the Greater Catholic Church and was an original member of Mill Run Golf Course, when it opened in 1981. Eugene is survived by his wife, Annette; daughter, Michele Farrell of Eau Claire; two sons, Kevin Farrell of Kalamazoo, MI and Brian (Constance) Farrell of Madison, WI; two grandchildren, Timothy Farrell of Ypsilanti, MI and Katherine (Hans) Stancil of Vero Beach, FL; two sisters, Frances (George) Nesemeier of Casselton, ND and Mary (Bob) Stetson of Shertz, TX. He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy; and parents. The family greatly appreciates the care provided by St. Joseph Hospice during Eugene's illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 9, 2012, at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, 2502 11th St., in Eau Claire with Father John A. Schultz officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of mass at the church. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Eau Claire.
