Evelyn Charity Henninger, 105, of Hayward, WI, formerly of Eau Claire, died Friday, October 12, 2012, at Hayward Area Memorial Hospital, in Hayward, WI. Evelyn was born in Chaseburg, WI, on December 29, 1906, a daughter of Edward and Christina (Galstad) Finstad. Evelyn graduated from Central High School in LaCrosse in 1924. She married Oscar W. Henninger on August 7, 1928, in LaCrosse, WI. Along with her husband, Oscar, they owned and operated Delicious Foods in Eau Claire for 30 years. Evelyn was known in the community for her many charitable endeavors. She sewed and crocheted hundreds of blankets and lap robes donating them to the Eau Claire Interfaith Hospitality Network. She supported other worthwhile charities because "she believed if you can help someone who needs help, why not help them. She also enjoyed living on her houseboat on the Mississippi for many years, snowshoeing, hiking in the north woods and spending time with her great-grandchildren. At the age of 95, she gave up snowshoeing. Evelyn was an adventure seeking woman and has traveled the world over. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and received their lifetime achievement award. Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Jean Henninger of Las Vegas; three grandsons, Kurt (Debra) Proctor of Hayward, Brett (Maria) Proctor and Andrew Proctor of Las Vegas; four great-grandchildren, Riley, Kara, Kali and Brett Jr. Proctor; and two great-grandchildren, Marlee and Kyson Proctor. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Oscar; and one sister Mabel Hellwig. Memorial services will be at 11a.m. on Monday, October 22, 2012, at Grace Lutheran Church, 202 W. Grand Ave in Eau Claire with Pastor Rolf Nestingen officiating. Inurnment will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral and Cremation Services is serving her family. Per Evelyn`s wishes, memorials may be sent to Feed My People Food Bank, 2610 Alpine Road, Eau Claire, WI 54703.
