EVELYN M. HOLMES, 85, 2636 Vermont Ave., Waukegan, Illinois, formerly of Eau Claire, died Tuesday, October 24, 2000 at her home. She was born November 16, 1914 to Alvin and Leila (Lawrence) Peterson in Eau Claire.\r\nEvelyn earned her B.A. degree at Eau Claire Teacher's College. She taught elementary school in La Crosse, WI and then in Waukegan, IL until her retirement in 1975.\r\nEvelyn married Torlief S. Holmes August 18, 1937 in Nashua, Iowa. They moved to Waukegan in 1952.\r\nShe was a life-member of the Eastern Star, LaCrosse, WI, a member of the American Association of University Women, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Colonial Dames\r\nSurvivors include her son, Robert Holmes of Arlington, VA; two sisters-in-law, Viola Krueger of Bloomington, MN and Jean Peterson of Mesa, Arizona.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her husband, Torlief in 1991; a brother, Herbert Peterson; and a sister, Bess Southworth.\r\nGraveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, October 30, 2000 at Lakeview Cemetery, Eau Claire, with Father G.
