Obituary

EVELYN I. JACKSON, 87, 901 So. Farwell St., died Friday, October 24, 1997 at her home. She was born October 26, 1909 to Gilbert and Amelia (Sperstad) Screeden in Eau Claire. She graduated from Eau Claire Senior H.S. in 1926 and received her Teaching Certificate from Eau Claire Normal School in 1928. Evelyn married Harold Jackson in Stillwater, MN in 1929. She taught in the rural Eau Claire schools for a year and then stayed at home to raise their family. Evelyn and Harold were Foster Parents for 134 children. Later Evelyn worked as a cook for W.S.U.E.C. for several years. As a Nurse's Aid, she worked at Mt. Washington Residence until retiring in 1965. Following her retirement, she went back to work providing home care for ten years. \r\nShe was a member of First Lutheran Church, Rubber Workers Auxiliary, and was a voter registration and Girl Scout volunteer. She enjoyed baking her Norwegian goodies, eating lutefisk, crocheting towels and making jelly for her family and friends.\r\nShe is survived by a son, Richard (Susan) Jackson of Rock Falls; two daughters, Mary (Robert) Hulback of Island Lake, and Cheryle (Lauren) Fechner of Andover, MN; eleven grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Gladys (William) Phraener of Philadelphia, PA. \r\nEvelyn was preceded in death by her husband Harold; a foster son, Pat Plemon; a great-granddaughter Sarah Hulback; a sister, Elsie Screeden and a brother, Orville Screeden. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church with The Rev. Dr. Duane C. Pederson officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Lenmark-Gomsrud Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.
