Ferdinand "Ferd" Eugene Radtke, age 91, of Eau Claire, joined his Heavenly Father on Friday, June 30, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 4, 1926, a son of Ewald and Ethel (Missman) Radtke, and grew up on the Upper West Side. Ferd enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17, during World War II, where he served in the South Pacific. He was a member of the VFW Post 305. On January 5, 1946, Ferd married his childhood sweetheart, Rose McSorley. To this union, they were blessed with one son and three daughters. Ferd worked for 40 years at Holsum Bakeries, retiring as Production Supervisor. Ferd enjoyed fishing, bowling, traveling, casinos, watching the Brewers, Packers and NASCAR. He especially valued spending time with family. Ferd was a Charter Member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd and resided for 15 years at the Good Shepherd Apartments, spending this last year at Dove Healthcare-West-Orchard Hills Assisted Living, where he made many friends. Ferd is survived by his daughters, Nancy (Rich) Lane of Eau Claire, Jean (Dan) Patton of Mansfield, TX, and Linda (Pat) Welsh of Chippewa Falls; daughter-in-law, Beth Radtke of North Carolina; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn Creviston and Bonnie Poppe; brother, Lester (Kay) Radtke; sisters-in-law, Shirley Radtke and Susan Radtke; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Rose; son, Robert Radtke; parents; grandson, Robert Jr.; and brothers, Jack and Jim Radtke. The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff at Mayo Clinic Health System-Eau Claire Hospital and the Mayo Clinic Health System Home Health Hospice, as well as the amazing staff at Dove Healthcare West-Orchard Hills Assisted Living. Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at the WEST CHAPEL location of Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 1405 N. Clairemont Avenue in Eau Claire, with Pastor Dan Hermanson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place in Lakeview Cemetery in Eau Claire. Military Honors will be conducted by VWF Post 305. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mayo Clinic Health System Home Health Hospice, 1221 Whipple Street, Eau Claire, WI 54703 or the Therapy Department of Dove Healthcare-West, 1405 Truax Blvd., Eau Claire, WI 54703.
