Fern L. Smith, 84, formerly of Eau Claire passed away Saturday, April 15, 2006, at Augusta Area Nursing Home in Augusta, WI. She was born in the town of Union, Eau Claire County, WI on December 12, 1921, the daughter of Fred and Barbara (Lackas) Smith. Fern graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School with the class of 1939.\r\nShe worked over 40 years at Uniroyal Tire Company in the Administrative office until her retirement in 1984.\r\nFern was a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church in New Auburn, Wisconsin Women's Bowling Assoc. and many Eau Claire teams, president and historian of the Round Lake Association, and a member of the Hallie Women's Golf League. \r\nShe is survived by her brother, Clarence Smith of Eau Claire; seven nieces and nephews, Janet (Robert) Costenaro of Weyerhouser, Barbara Smith of Woodbury, MN, Michele (Michael) Hogan of Bradenton, FL, Shirley (Lyman) Wedlund of Fall Creek, Linda (Kurt) Fredrickson of Milwaukee, Larry Smith of Pennsylvania, and David (Linda) Smith of Eau Claire; and many great nieces and nephews and special friends.\r\nFern was a passionate about all of her dogs and her beloved home on Round Lake, where she was able to reside permanently after her retirement. Throughout her life she was a very accomplished golfer and bowler. She will be remembered by her many friends for her warmth and sense of humor.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, James Smith; two sisters-in-law, Freda and Lorraine Smith; and a nephew, Robert Smith.\r\nMass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at St. James Catholic Church with Father John A. Schultz officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home.
