Obituary

Frances Lydia Johnson, 100, of Eau Claire, formerly of Park Falls and Rice Lake, passed away at Syverson Lutheran Home on Friday, January 6, 2012. Frances was born in Platteville, WI, to John and Mary Johanns September 19,1911. She graduated from Platteville High School and attended bookkeeping school in Dubuque, IA. She married Murvin G. Johnson July 3, 1933. He was from the Rice Lake area and attending the Platteville Mining School - now UW Platteville. They enjoyed 74 years of marriage before Murvin's death in September 2007. Due to Murvin's profession as a civil engineer the family moved many times. Frances always made a "home" - sometimes in difficult circumstances - and always made friends in her new surroundings. Their longest years in one place was in Park Falls, WI where Frances was very active in the 1st Congregational Church, Eastern Star, Rebekah Lodge and a good friend to many. She was currently a member of Lake Street United Methodist Church. Frances is survived by her daughter, Marlene Arntson of Eau Claire; son Paul (Linda) Johnson of Iron River; six grandchildren, Kathryn (Kent) Gierhart, Kirsten (Brian) Gierhart, Kari (Craig) Walter, Lisa (John) Johnson-Heim, Derek (Beth) Johnson, and Renee (John) Graves; thirteen great grandchildren, Katrina and Kisja Gierhart, Christopher, Colin, and Cory Gierhart, Park and Lydia Walter, Alexis and Sam Heim, Gabrielle and Claire Johnson, and Kalea and Kaija Von Loesch; and several nieces and nephews Frances was preceded in death by husband Murvin, her parents, two sisters and one brother, son-in-law David Arntson, two brothers-in-law, and three sisters - in-law. A private family service will be held. Burial will be held in Platteville, WI, in the spring. Memorials can be made to Lake Street United Methodist Church, 337 4th Ave., Eau Claire, WI, 54703. Thank-you to Mayo Hospice for their care the last four weeks of Frances' life and a special thank-you to the caring staff at Syverson Lutheran Home.
