Frank J. Lausche, age 73, of Eau Claire, died peacefully with his loving family by his side at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire on Wednesday, January 22, 2014. Frank was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on January 25, 1940, to Frank and Victoria (Stupica) Lausche. He grew up and attended school in Detroit, Michigan. At age 17, Frank joined the United States Navy with his parent's consent. He served in the Navy for 4 ½ years, stationed in San Diego, California on the USS Dixie (AD-14). After his military service Frank moved to California for most of his adult life and worked as a machinist. He also lived in Las Vegas, Nevada, for 10 years, and the last 22 years in Eau Claire. Frank is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Elaine Mastin; daughter, Vicki Herr of California; 2 granddaughters, Taylor and Choloe Herr of California; brother, Larry (Sheri) Lausche of Florida; brother-in-law, David Perez; sister-in-law, Maryly (Ellery) Jordahl; 2 very special nieces, Jessica (Harold) Lowe and Jacklyn Perez; 2 very special nephews, Jeffrey (Karen) Jordahl and Ron (Megan) Jordahl; 2 great-nieces, Emma and Calia; and 1 great-nephew, Carson, all of Eau Claire. He is also survived by many, many, special close friends. Frank loved the outdoors and wildlife. He enjoyed fishing, watching NFL Football, and going to casinos to play video poker. At home he loved feeding the squirrels, rabbits, chipmunks, and birds. His favorite bird was the pheasant. Frank was best known for telling jokes. He said he loved to make people happy and put a smile on their face. Frank was very proud to be a veteran of the United States Navy. He was equally proud to be named after his uncle, Frank J. Lausche, who served as Governor of Ohio for two terms. Frank will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, January 24, 2014, at the WEST CHAPEL of Lenmark Gomsrud Linn Funeral Home, 1405 North Clairemont Avenue. Military Honors will be conducted by the Eau Claire American Legion Post #53 at 6:30 p.m.
