Frank J. Schlumpf, Jr., age 95, of Eau Claire went to be with the lord on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at his home. Frank was born on May 24, 1917, in Durand, WI, to Frank and Mary (Brunner) Schlumpf. Frank graduated from Durand High school where he was a starter on the Varsity basketball team. He went into the service during World War II where he worked as a librarian at many bases including the Army Air base in Windsor Locks Connecticut where in 1943 he married his wife Mary Bette (Tilka) Schlumpf. After the war they moved to Eau Claire, Wisconsin in 1948. Frank worked at Uniroyal for 28 years. Frank was avid Wisconsin sports fan; he loved watching the Brewers, Packers, and the Badgers. He also followed the Regis basketball team throughout his life. Frank was a fast pitch soft ball pitcher for many softball leagues up until he was in his late 40s. He was a devoted founding member of St James church in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He lived his life as a man of deep faith in God and prayed the rosary every day. He was an active member at the YMCA for 40 years. He enjoyed taking long drives with his family to travel to different places in Wisconsin and an annual trip every year to a Brewers game. Frank and Mary loved playing bingo throughout the week and attending their grandkids sporting and school events. Frank is survived by his sons, Frank (Jessie) Schlumpf III of Blanchardville, WI and Craig Schlumpf of Eau Claire; daughter, Cheryl (Richard) Strojny of Chippewa Falls; Four grandchildren and many great-grand children; along with nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Frank is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; and siblings, Marion Brown and Genevieve Harmon. Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at Lenmark Gomsrud Linn Funeral Home,WEST CHAPEL, 1405 N. Clairemont Ave., Eau Claire, from 4 to 7 p.m., with a Public Prayer Vigil beginning at 6:30 p.m. and a Rosary Service to follow. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12 p.m. Noon on Wednesday, at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, 2502 11th Street, Eau Claire WI, 54703 with a visitation one hour prior to Mass at church. Father John A. Schultz will be officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Eau Claire, with military honors conducted by Eau Claire American Legion Post #53. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family.
