Freda E. Smith, 72, of 111 Country Club Lane, Altoona, died Friday, July 12, 1996 at her home. She was born December 29, 1923 in Bridgewater, England to Frederick and Ethel (Mercer) Pearce. Freda married Clarence R. Smith at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Eau Claire on October 12, 1946. She worked for the Eau Claire Board of Education for many years as an administrative assistant at Roosevelt and Sherman Schools until her retirement in 1983. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church.\r\nFreda loved her family, she enjoyed traveling to visit them and was always cooking up something special to feed them. She was an avid gardener, the seeds of her work are spread far and wide to be enjoyed by many for years to come. Freda touched many lives and will be missed by all.\r\nSurvivors include her husband, Clarence; three daughters, Janet (Bob) Costenaro of Weyerhauser, Barbara Smith of Chicago, Ill, and Michele (Michael) Hogan of Bradenton, FL; five grandchildren; a sister, Patricia Reynolds of Atlanta, GA; many nieces, nephews and special friends.\r\nFreda was preceded in death by her parents.\r\nFuneral Services will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday at St. James Catholic Church with Father John A. Schultz officiating. Entombment will be in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum. Friends may call one hour prior to services Monday at the church. Lenmark-Gomsrud Funeral Home is serving the Family.\r\nFamily request memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society.
