Obituary

FREDERICK G. CHRISTENSEN, 74, of 3157 Leslie Lane, died Thursday, November 18, 1999 at Syverson Lutheran Home. He was born on January 25, 1925 in Adams, WI, to Hans and Erna (Hessel) Christensen.\r\nHe entered the U.S. Army on April 15, 1943 and received his combat infantry badge for service in Italy in World War II. He received his honorable discharge on Dec. 18, 1945.\r\nFred grew up and attended schools in Tomahawk, Chicago and Green Bay. Fred earned a bachelor's degree in education from UW-Madison. In 1954, he earned a master's degree in education from University of Illinois-Urbana. He completed a Ph.D. in education administration at the University of Illinois-DeKalb in 1972.\r\nFred married Emily Sue Hodge in St. Louis, Missouri on August 8, 1964.\r\nHe taught school and was in school administration in Illinois, and then moved to Richland Center where he was principal for several years. He moved to Eau Claire where he was principal at North High School for fourteen years. \r\nRetiring in 1986, Fred discovered the joys of motorcycling and rediscovered his art talent. He created the Portrait Gallery and specialized in pencil portraits working from photographs. He developed a series of steam locomotive "Rolling Thunder" drawings and was also a cartoonist. He enjoyed attending high school graduation parties where he drew cartoon portraits of many students \r\nSurvivors include his wife, Emily Sue; son, Erik Christensen of Eagan, MN; and daughter, Anne Syverson of Waconia, MN. His parents preceded him in death.\r\nFuneral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home with Chaplain Toby Ellison officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and an hour prior to services on Monday.
