Frederick "Fritz" L. Stang, 99 of Eau Claire, went to be with his heavenly Father on Friday, November 5, 2004, at his home. He was born on August 16, 1905, in Eau Claire, the son of Axel and Bertina (Fagerlie) Stang.\r\nFritz married Vivian L. Ritter May 28, 1932, in Eau Claire.\r\nHe served in the U.S. Army-Air Corp from 1924 to 1927. Fritz then worked as a tire builder at Uniroyal for 42 years, retiring in 1969.\r\nHe was a member of Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ for 72 years where he taught Sunday school and was on the service commission. Fritz called on the shut-ins, sending them church bulletins until July of 2004. His lifelong hobby was sending all-occasion cards to friends, relatives, and church members.\r\nFritz was known as "Grandpa Fritz" to everyone. He spent his entire life traveling by foot, never wanting to own a car or have a driver's license. Fritz' great sense of humor will be sadly missed.\r\nSurvivors include three daughters, Florence (Bob) Ussery of N. Augusta, SC, Mary Lou (Jim) Welk and Leota Rasmussen both of Eau Claire; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marion Schnell of LaCrosse.\r\nFritz was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vivian in 1993; an infant grandson; an infant great-grandson; and his sister, Florence Stang.\r\nFuneral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 9, 2004 at Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ with Rev. David Huber officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery where American Legion Post #53 will conduct military graveside rites. Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.\r\nIn lieu of flowers, family requests memorials be directed to Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ Building Fund, 2010 Moholt Dr., Eau Claire, WI 54703 or Northwest Wisconsin Homecare, 2620 Stein Blvd., Eau Claire, WI 54701.
