Obituary

FREDERICK F. STAFFORD, 84, of Eau Claire, died Sunday, September 2, 2001 at The Clairemont. He was born in Long Island City, New York on May 20, 1917. He enlisted on October 21, 1941, serving in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II, until his honorable discharge on January 8, 1946.\r\nFred married Eve Morgan in New York in 1948. He married Betty Golden at Immaculate Conception Church with Father Myron Meinen officiating on September 15, 1984. \r\nHe was a sales representative for twelve years for the National Federation of Independent Business until his retirement in 1982.\r\nFred was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Knights of Columbus John F. Kennedy council #1257, and a life member of VFW Post 305. He was a member and Past Commander of American Legion Post #53 and St. Casper Father Dowd Post #1641 Catholic War Veteran's.\r\nSurvivors include his wife, Betty; two daughters, Patricia Stafford of St. Louis Park, MN and Cathleen (Wayne) Hirsch of Eagan, MN; grandson, Ryan Stafford of Mpls.; stepson, Thomas Golden of Eau Claire and five step-grandchildren.\r\nHe was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, June Rogers.\r\nMass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 6, 2001 at Immaculate Conception Church with Father Eugene Klink officiating. Friends and relatives may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Mpls, MN.
