Gary L. Eckel, 50, of Augusta, died Friday, October 31, 2003 in Spider Lake Township, Sawyer County as a result of an automobile accident. He was born on April 25, 1953 in Eau Claire, the son of Leonard and Marge (Books) Eckel. \r\nGary married Denise M. Koppa on May 7, 1977 in Eau Claire.\r\nHe was employed at Uniroyal Tire Company in Eau Claire and Ft Wayne, IN until his retirement. Since retiring from Uniroyal he has been employed in the Maintenance Department with the Augusta School District.\r\nGary is survived by his wife, Denise; a son, Jacob (Kristy); a daughter, Sarah, both of Augusta; his parents, Leonard and Marge of Eau Claire; a brother, Paul (Sue) of Fall Creek; a sister, Lorna (Darren) Zais of Eau Claire; his parents-in-law, Frank and Mary Koppa of Eau Claire; a brother-in-law, Jeff (Debbie) Koppa of Woodstock, IL; and a special friend, Chris (Corey) Price of Osseo; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins, and his special friend Michi.\r\nHe was preceded in death by two infant sisters and his first wife Kathy Breitenfeldt.\r\nFuneral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 4, 2003 at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home with Pastor Carl Kangas officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home.
