Gary L. "Barney" Barneson, 74, of Eau Claire, passed away on Friday, May 25, 2018, at HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire. He was born in Eau Claire on December 20, 1943, a son of Joseph and Lillian (Stuber) Barneson. Gary graduated from Memorial High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968, during the Vietnam Era. During that time, he received several decoration medals. After returning from the military, he finished his college education and received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. On April 19,1975, Gary married Diane Girolamo. Gary worked at Saratogo Liquor for 22 years until his retirement. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and especially enjoyed pheasant hunting with his golden retrievers. Barney was a true Green Bay Packer and Wisconsin Badger fan. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Delmastro and the staff at Marshfield Cancer Center, and Dr. Thapar, Dr. Javaid and staff with Sacred Heart Critical Care Unit, for the care and compassion provided to Barney. Gary is survived by his wife, Diane; brother, Robert (Mary Lou) of Minong, WI; sister, Barbara (Gene) Knutson of Chetek, WI; sisters-in-law, Sue (Spike) Megahan of Tumbling Shoals, AR and Maryann Schigur of Conway, AR; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, James (Alice Rita) Barneson; nephew, Daniel Barneson; and brother-in-law, Richard (Sharon) Girolamo. Per Gary's wishes, a private family inurnment will take place at a later date at Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery near Spooner, WI.
