Obituary

Gary V. Ming, 63, of Eau Claire died unexpectedly Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at Luther Hospital. He was born in Eau Claire on November 17, 1944, son of Walter and Lilly (Hanson) Ming. Gary was baptized and confirmed at Concordia Lutheran Church. He graduated from Memorial High School.\r\nAt the age of seventeen, Gary enlisted in the U.S. Marines on January 8, 1962, serving in the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge on May 6, 1966.\r\nHe married Martha E. Phelps at Concordia Lutheran Church on April 11, 1964.\r\nGary was employed 10 years for Midwest Manufacturing and most recently 15 years as a roofer for Interstate Roofing.\r\nHe enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cribbage, the "Packers", and NASCAR. \r\nGary had a soft spot in his heart for his grandchildren. He enjoyed being around them and they always made him smile.\r\nHe is survived by his son, Walter "Wally" Ming of Chippewa Falls; two daughters, Michelle (Mark) Vincent of Chippewa Falls and Connie (Troy) Moritz of Menomonie; and their mother, Martha Ming of Eau Claire; four grandchildren; Anthony Gary and Alexa Vincent, Hunter and Hope Moritz; two brothers, LeRoy (Judy) Ming of Eau Claire and Vernon (Dianne) Ming of Fall Creek; an aunt, Viola Barrett of Eau Claire; many nieces and nephews; and special friend, Evelyn Mickelson of Eau Claire.\r\nGary was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Ming; two sisters, Virginia Ming and Bonnie Nowak; brother-in-law, Hermie Nowak; an uncle, Raymond Ming; nephew, Jeffrey Ming, niece, Louise Ming; and his special friend, Kathleen Hazard.\r\nFuneral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at Concordia Lutheran Church, Eau Claire with Rev. Frederick W. Theiste officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Eau Claire where American Legion Post #53 will conduct military honors. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.
