Gary R. Thompson, age 68, passed away quietly at home the morning of May 5, 2024 with his loving wife by his side. Gary was born in Eau Claire, WI on December 11, 1955. Gary grew up in the Eau Claire area and graduated from North High School. After graduating he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp where he served for 4 years including 1 year in Vietnam and was Honorably discharged on December 26, 1979 as Corporal. He worked at G&K Industrial Laundry services for many years from Route Salesman to Management. Gary married Cathy (Claussen) Marohl in 1982. They had a son Matthew. Gary married Bernice (Lovey) Jacobsen on November 4, 1995. Gary is survived by his wife, Bernice; stepmother, Jeanne Thompson; sisters, Ellen Anderson, Diane (Gregg) Holbrook and Amy (Bryan) Gillespie; brother, Eric (Laura) Thompson; brother-In-law, Dennis (Patty) Jacobsen; sister-In-laws, Linda (Stu) Strong, and Susan (Rick) Pribnow; many nieces and nephews, aunts and many wonderful friends and Gary's buddy Rupert his cat. He is preceded in death by son, Matthew; parents, Larry and Ardyce Thompson; mother and father in-law, Roy and Erna Jacobsen; grandparents; nephew, Ryan Caturia; brothers-in-law, Paul Johnson and Bo Anderson. Gary was a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, and friend to many. He Loved to watch his sport teams; he was a walking encyclopedia of sports facts. From watching the Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers and his beloved NY Yankees. He attended many games with family and friends. He attended the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA in 2020 with Dennis Jacobsen, Todd Jacobsen, Tim Hovre and Clarence Tam. Gary was also involved in the Eau Claire Ski Club for many years, and served as President for 1 year and was inducted into its Hall of Fame. He was a lifelong member of VFW Post 305 in Eau Claire. Gary was loved by many family and friends. He will be missed forever. Clairemont Ave., Eau Claire. Visitation will begin at 11am up until the time of the service.
