Obituary

Gayle A. Sohr, 72, of Eau Claire, died Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire following a courageous battle with cancer.\r\nGayle was born March 21, 1934, in Waukesha, WI, the daughter of Roger K. Sr. and Ethel (Pederson) Sohr. She attended school in Waukesha, graduating from Waukesha High School in 1952.\r\nShe went on to attend Milwaukee County General Hospital getting her diploma in 1955. She then went on to Marquette University College of Nursing graduating with a B.S.N. in 1960. Following her graduation, Gayle worked for the Waukesha County Health Department for several years. In 1969, she went on to achieve her Masters Degree in Nursing from the University of Michigan School of Public Health graduating in 1970.\r\nIn the fall of 1970, Gayle accepted a position as Nursing Instructor at University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire. Gayle was promoted to assistant professor in 1977 and remained in that position until the time of her retirement. \r\nGayle was a long time devoted member of Lake Street United Methodist Church. She was involved in many church groups including, United Methodist Women, where she served as president during 1999 to 2000. Gayle was also a past Officer of the Chippewa District of United Methodist Women. She was the first parish nurse at Lake Street and continued her role up to the time of her death. Gayle was also enjoyed her membership in the evening reading group. She was also active in Church Women United where she currently held the office of Vice President. . \r\nAmong her hobbies were reading, golfing and taking care of her flowers. Gayle also enjoyed spending time at the family cottage at Paya Lake near Lakewood, WI.\r\nShe is survived by her two brothers, Roger K. Sohr Jr. of Gillett, WI and Jim of New Orleans, LA; a niece, Sara (Darin) Preston of New Orleans; and a nephew, Peter Sohr of Dallas, TX.\r\nShe was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Janet Lynn.\r\nFuneral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, September 11, 2006 at Lake Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. E. Doyle Blanton officiating. Family and friends may call one hour prior to services Monday at church. Graveside services will be held at 4:15 p.m. at Wanderer's Rest Cemetery in Gillett, WI. Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home is serving the family.
