GENEVIEVE MARGARET JOHNSON, died Saturday, December 28, 1996 at the Clairemont. She was born to Hans and Emma Johnson in Eau Claire on July 17, 1910, attended grade and high school and graduated from State Teacher's College with a B. Ed. She did graduate work at the universities of Montana and Iowa, but received her Master's Degree from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. She taught English and Social Studies at Spring Valley, English at Chippewa Junior High, and was the librarian at Chippewa Falls High School until she retired in 1976. For many years she was Pep Club advisor and coached plays, both class and Thespian plays for countless years, as well as other programs. During the Second World War she worked at the Bremerton Navy Yard in Washington, the Uniroyal plant in Des Moines, Iowa and a canning factory in Bloomer.\r\nShe was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a honorary teacher's association, and held most offices throughout the years, including president. She had a Girl Scout Troop at church, was a member of AAUW, Retired Teachers, AARP, Amnesty International, Chippewa Valley Museum, the Chippewa County Museum, the Syverson Home Auxiliary, Friends of the Library, University Foundation, the President's Club, and the Luther Hospital Samaritan Club. She taught at the university in the Library Science Department during the summer. For many years she delivered books to shut-ins from the public library.\r\nShe was a long time member of Grace Lutheran Church, and since her retirement has cataloged all books in the two libraries at church.\r\nSurvivors include a sister, Irene Louise Johnson; nephew,Delmar(Frances)Johnson; a niece, Diane(Carl)Johnson Manz all of Eau Claire; and several great-nieces and nephews. \r\nShe was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Lawrence J. and Milton E.\r\nGen loved traveling and covered most areas of the United States and Europe. She also found pleasure in reading and attending the theatre. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.\r\nHer body will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at 11:30 A.M. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church Chapel with Pastor Barbara A. Koch officiating. \r\nMemorials may be sent to Grace Lutheran Church and the L.E. Phillips Library.
